ITunes U

This is a very interesting and fundamental tool that ITunes is providing us with. I agree with it 100%. It is ideal and all students should be aware of it because it is very helpful for us to use during this busy time where we barely have time to sit down and do things. The video states how we learn from some of the world's "leading thinkers" with just the click of a button.

This is legal and downloadable, now who can beat that!!Conveniently you can take it anywhere you go and do everything as if it were your Ipod or your Iphone. There is no limit to what or where you can learn when you are dealing with the the ITunes U!

WIRED Story about Wikipedia

Personally, from experience and being an English major, I was never allowed to use Wikipedia in high school. But once I got in college, it seemed okay for us to use. I still do not think of it as a legit source because anyone can submit information and it does not have to be the correct information. I do not agree with Wikipedia but to each is own. Some people find it very helpful but I think I'll just stick with reliable sources!!!

Lanwitches Blog

I must say I am quite amused by these very young students. They are learning to do so much at such a young age and I did not learn to use a computer until the 4th or 5th grade. I am proud to see the students have the necessary resources they need in order prepare them for their future. About 10 years ago, the school I attended did not have the necessary resources to participate in many programs or to fund our schools with very much.

The test allowed the students to use all of their senses and available resources. I am still in shock that these students were only in the 1st grade!I did not even understand how to turn a computer on when I was that young, but these students knew exactly what they were doing and how to do it! They were very intelligent.

MacBreak Weekly

I have never heard of the I-pad. I think it is going to do well but who's to say? I am skeptical just like the other people since so many things are coming out at the same time that's so small. A new thing is something new and many people like change but most people do not.

Mainstream media is about the ripple effect it would have on society. I agree that it is something different. People will always have an opinion on different, new things. I have the same opinion about Flash that they have. I like Real player.

I like the idea of buying something that does not have too many features but has enough. I would buy this for my mother since she does not own a pc. She would enjoy that since she is beginning to get interested by technology and that will not overdo it. It does not have an overload of features but I think it is a great idea.

The whole idea seems fine to me. New things are coming out everyday and it definitely would not hurt anything to try it. Most people like change. Some approve of the I-phone and some do not. For those people who typically do not care for all of those apps and high tech functions, this may be the thing for them!I for one am one of those people.

EdTech Talk

I love statistics!!I see how fast the internet is growing and becoming globally known. Almost everyone is using email but the narrator does not think some of these high numbers are as high as they should be. 200 billion spam messages per day is phenomenal!!

Jeff feels that we are learning. I couldn't agree with him more. I also wrote down the list of the websites that they were mentioning in order to see which files are being loaded and how long they take. Very interesting!!

I think the internet is really what's happening in this day and age. It didn't surprise me that the social networks are growing more now than they ever have. In a way that is a good thing and in a way that is a bad thing. Young children and teenagers have more internet access than we ever have had.

I am interested that Verizon now has upgrades after 1 year!!This is all brand new news to me!I have at&t and right now I'm wishing I had a Verizon plan. The Android is a new thing but I would rather have the I-Phone since it was original and it allows multiple apps!

This week in Photography

The podcast was pretty straightforward if it was not for Scott bragging and discussing himself. The show would have been decent if it was not for him. The forum was okay for the most part. I would have preferred to read a book or explore the website.

The content was good. It was very informative with the exception of Scott bragging and being conceited. I havent always been very interested in photography but the audio sparked a new interest to me. As i well observed, it makes you wealthy according to Scoutt Bourne!!

Even TWIP is a new experience for me. I have never been or even heard of that but I am excited to visit it and ready to explore. The same narrators from this website are also on the TWIP website! I am curious to explore that because it sounds like they really know their research and they really get the job done.

I am very interested in film and digital photography but the video mainly discusses film. I think I would catch on to digital photography much sooner and faster. My favorite thing about it is how the guys discussed their past or an experience they previously. The used that experience to better themselves and that was their way of learning.

KidCast

The narrator discusses different activity ideas. We as teachers/students/future teachers have to understand not to overwhelm ourselves with an entire podcast episode. Instead a mini-series would be just as fine. Just choose a special topic and that would make it easier and more convenient.

The podcast should be done at the class level. Focus in on the big idea. Choose as many topics as we can think of and go from there. I think this is a great idea.

Once the topic is already established, define the resources on the topic. The goal is to give the audience a multi-dimensional scope of the project. I think a mini-series is a great idea instead of cramming an entire episode into one. At the end, it should be a discussion show.

I really enjoyed the discussion and I am thrilled to start on the project. I am still learning but I will soon get there. I am excited and eager to learn. Students should listen to themselves before they have completed the project.

Smart Board Lessons Podcasts

This podcast makes me want to get a Smartboard! In the beginning I had no idea what I was doing. I also never even heard of podcast or the things they're capable of doing. That is exactly why I take a lot if interest in this class because of the many things I have learned and continue to learn everyday. It is so convenient to download this and for it to provide us with so much information.

Joan and Ben were very helpful and specific and all of the confusion that I had about it, they made it much more clearer. It is also very entertaining for a laugh!! The podcast was very informative also. Projects like this helps me form different projects for my students when I go into the classroom as a teacher.

Students are likely to get engaged in something as long as the project has been described to them step by step such as the podcast itself. It's one thing that I have a feeling my students will be excited about once they understand the concept of the Podcast and what is going on. It is very important to get the students involved from what I have observed. The men also stressed this point.

I just wish the things I'm just learning,I had known before I was a junior in college. If we had it in high school, it would seem much easier to us before we enter the class, not once we learn it while we are in college. However Im excited about the Podcast and the things I have learned it while listening to it and I cannot wait to do my own!

Fischbowl

I found Mr. Karl's argument very interesting because we do not usually think about these things in context. How can we teach someone something if we are just going by the books and not understanding it? The future is coming yet we are still so far in the past. It makes me wonder about the future and how it will be affected.

Being technologically literate in the teaching field is a necessary tool and needs to be addressed. Teachers need to keep up with the new thing! Learning technology is one thing, but understanding it is a totally different thing. Our options are available right at our fingertips and so is necessary help. I do not believe that Mr. Karl was aiming this argument at anyone specifically and I do not believe he did it out of anger but just to open our eyes and help us to understand how important being literate of technology is.

Comments on Ms. Hines Post

I really agree with Ms. Hines article about teachers and their learning experience. Even though we have came far from where we've been, technology is still not the most important thing we need. Ms. Hines argues that teachers need to change the approach to learning. "Teachers should also be perpetual learners,"Ms Hines argues. Teachers should also customize their learning experiences.

Teachers must be self-motivated in order to learn and teach. Learning and teaching are not the same and many teachers do not understand. You cannot teach without learning. Teachers should be teaching in 21st century skills. They must learn to self-motivate.

Gary Hayes' Technology Change in Seconds

Wow, I'm very excited about the exponential growth of our technological world. It is amazing how fast things are happening and we are taking it for granted by the second. All of the social networks are growing and more people are purchasing gifts through them every day. It surprised me that more emails than text messages are getting sent by the second. I thought text messaging was the number one form of communication!

As a future educator, I am beginning to understand how fast things are growing since I've been in this class for the past couple of weeks. I understand that things will only continue to change by the second, by the hour, by the day, by the week and by the year. By the time I began teaching in the next couple of years, I will probably be teaching to students half way across the world! I am excited about the many convenient changes that technology is doing to the world and I cannot wait to see many more and explore many possibilities.

A Vision of Students Today

The video made me realize a lot of things about my generation and the world we are living in. Before this video, I never sat down and calculated how much debt I would be in by the time I am done with school. Yes, it does make me rethink the whole "college experiences". It is not guaranteed that I will find a job after graduation--or even a job that pays enough for me to start paying off my debts that I am now paying for school. Some students live life way easier than other people. Some people will automatically have a job after graduation because of who they know--not how hard they have worked.

I would not add anything to the video if I could but I do have a totally different outlook on my college experience and how it is labeled today. Some of these things I have never thought about one time--let alone twice. It sure was an eye-opener for me. Most colleges do not even participate in textbook work anymore, but everything is strictly done off the internet. I do not understand that. If I want to take an online course, I would register for one. My generation hasn't caused any of these problems that the students in the classroom spoke about, but as they stated on one of the cards, we are paying for it!!

Ms.Davis(Exploring technology)

Ms. Davis is allowing her students the opportunity to teach the class. She says she doesnt feel as if she is teaching it but allowing them to further their ability in it. She focuses on how to learn the software and allows them to experiment with different projects. She has a method of using new terms and expects the students to look it up. She expects her students to be thinkers.

The students were also given the opportunity to outsource and interact with others students in a social networking group from all over the world. I agree with Ms. Davis' statement that all students are connected to the world. It usually is harder for students in a small rural area, but Mrs. Davis is trying to empower the students and create usage of technology for them to explore.

Creativity in Children

I agree with Mr.Robinson's statement on stating that we need to get an education into this future which we cant seem to grasp. As he stated, creativity is just as important as literacy, but teachers and professors have lost sight of that. The education system has us on a thinking mind pattern because we do not know how important creativity really is. Most kids are curious and eager learners so it would not hurt anything for the schools to act more interested in creativity instead of placing the kids in time out every 2 or 3 hours.
Mr. Robinson also stated that children lose sight of creativity as they grow into adulthood and that is not good for children living in a country that is supposed to be "free". The little smart 6-year old girl was even smart enough to believe that God is going to come back one day and that we are living in our last days. That's not for me to say or create an opinion about but that drew a lot of interest to me. That's what you call "creative abiltity". She did not pay attention in the class, but she was an artist--an ability she won't ever get recognized for.

Did you know/Mr. Winkle Wakes

While watching the "Did you Know" clip on youtube, I was shocked at the discovery that India actually has more honors kids than America has kids. America is advanced on so many levels with technology and this surprised me extremely. 1 out of 8 of the couples that are married in the U.S., met online. This was another shocking discovery. I'm very excited about the supercomputer coming in 2013 to see exactly how intelligent it really is.
I really enjoyed the story about Mr. Rip Van Winkle. It was cute and it was a cute idea. Mr. Winkle was shocked to see how time had changed over such a period of time as 100 years. In addition to the changes, Mr. Winkle found himself amazed and surprised. On his journey after he woke up, he discovered a hospital, which was something he obviously never knew existed before he went into his deep sleep. He took a vast interest in the classroom and school. He observed the things the teacher taught the student. He loved school.
